2010 Founder's Day Speech

Given by His Excellency, President Kevin Baugh
26 May 2010 XXXIII

My Follow Molossians, treasured friends and family, Greetings.

33 years ago today two young men had an idea, born of imagination, to found a country. From the simple scrawls on paper set down so long ago grew the great nation that you see around you today, the Republic of Molossia. What was a whim in 1977 is now the supreme small nation on earth, a nation whose mighty heart and soul far outshines its size. Molossia the idea, and the dream, became Molossia the nation, a nation which lies at the forefront of the micronational world and whose accomplishments other small nations can only envy.

And so today we reflect on the achievements of Molossia over the past year, and look forward to the coming year. This time last year our nation was visited by not one, but two video crews, each filming short movies about Molossia. The media visited again last August from the newspaper of the University of Nevada, Reno, and then again in September all the way from England. This latter visit generated press across the planet, and resulted in a storm of interest from China, as well as other countries, about our nation.

Early last summer, our first diving bell, the "Seahorse", was launched, and participated in two separate underwater voyages to explore Lake Tahoe. Both voyages were a resounding success and the movies of these aquatic journeys became very popular on the internet.

In July our new telephone system was inaugurated, replacing our old telegraph system. Though only nascent, it represents a great step forward in Molossian technology and we look forward to its expansion throughout the nation.

We contributed in July to the support of third-world entrepreneurs through the microinvestment organization "Kiva" and lead the way for other micronations to follow suit, forming a Kiva group to facilitate micronational aid to macronational businessmen across our planet. This will hopefully encourage economic growth and help make the world a better place.

September heralded the advent our First Lady, Adrianne, and her family to our nation. The First Lady is the love of my life and her family has not only changed my world for the better but also that of Molossia. As we welcomed her family to our nation, we made them at home with Molossian activities, founding the youth group, "The Molossia Rangers". The Rangers' mission is to explore the world and expand the frontiers of Molossia and in this they have performed admirably. I cannot properly express my pride in the First Family, except to say that they are the heart and soul of Molossia and our nation would be a poorer place without them.

This spring has seen remarkable things happen in Molossia. In March our Trading Post was established, to give visitors a chance to shop in our nation. And in April our nation was invaded by the Kickassians, said invasion being the plot line of a movie filmed entirely in and around Molossia. This movie premiered online in May of this year and generated a firestorm of interest in Molossia. We are a very popular place!

And so we begin a new year in the world's smallest sovereign republic. The achievements of the past year are but a herald of greater things to come. There is a new energy in Molossia and this energy drives us forward to greater goals and accomplishments. We are a mighty nation and the future is ours!

As always, in closing, I voice my pride in Molossia, and the honor it is to lead our great nation. This has been another wonderful year in Molossia's history, and together we have accomplished amazing things. The future hold great promise, glory and endless opportunities and I am proud to lead you, as we enter that future together.

God Bless You,
Long Live Molossia!
