Molossia's Underwater Magnet In Lake Tahoe
Brought to You by the Mighty Molossian Navy
On Sunday, 11 July 2020 XLIV the Mighty Molossian Navy set out to explore the waters of nearby Lake Tahoe, about 50 Imperial Nortons (31 mi/50 km) west of the Molossian Home Territory. The goal was to deploy our newest scientific instrument, the Underwater Magnetic Device (UMD). This was a new frontier for our Navy, having previously only explored beneath the waves with our submersible cameras. The UMD's purpose is to pick up metallic items from the lake bottom with its powerful magnetic force. Attached to a long cable, the magnet can descend deep beneath the surface, to hopefully come back with any sort of metal - perhaps even treasure? On a sunny afternoon, the Navy deployed from Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe, sailing east toward a rocky promontory, deemed a likely area for metal items to be lost and hopefully found. Unfortunately none were to be found, the lake bottom being scrupulously clean. The Navy then moved to the sandy bottom of the beach area of Sand Harbor, where a trove of iron filings were brought up by the magnet - showing its effectiveness, if nothing else. Determining that the magnet worked but the "fishing" grounds were less than desirable, the Navy ended the mission, returning to Molossia successful - and optimistic for future missions with our mighty UMD!
Hooray for the Molossian Navy!
