14 July 2024 XLVII
Khamsin Molossia News

On Sunday, 7 July 2024 XLVII the Molossian Navy launched its newest submarine, the Gladius, to nearby Lake Tahoe, a favored spot for the Navy's many voyages of discovery. The focus of this mission was to test this new ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) on it's inaugural mission to explore the lake. The Molossian Navy has had many ROV's throughout the years, the Manta USV, the Seahorse diving bell and the Waterbug. All of these vessels performed admirably, but were hampered by a lack of their own propulsion, relying on the current of whatever body of water they were in to move them around. The Gladius is the height of underwater technology, possessing five motors to move it around, as well as a live camera feed to peer into the depths in real time. A 857 Norton (500 foot) tether ensures the Gladius can travel far on its voyages of exploration. On this inaugural voyage the Gladius stayed fairly close to shore, exploring the waters off Baldwin Beach on Lake Tahoe as well as a murky pond near the beach. While nothing of great scientific interest was noted during these two forays, they were nevertheless very successful in learning control and maneuvering of the ROV, as well as simply enjoying the underwater flights of this mighty little submarine. The Gladius is an amazing asset to our Navy, opening up entirely new horizons in our exploration of the aquatic world. Hooray for the Gladius and hooray for the Mighty Molossian Navy!
