Khamsin Molossia News

A horrible tragedy has stuck the Indian Ocean Basin. On December 26th, following a massive undersea earthquake that measured 9.0 on the Richter scale, giant tsunami waves hammered the coasts of Bangladesh, Burma, East Africa, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Thailand. At the time of this writing, up to 121,000 people are feared dead, with possible casualty figures reaching even higher. Entire villages were destroyed, many coastal resorts have been damaged, and millions are homeless. The scale of this disaster is overwhelming. As relief begins to arrive in the affected areas, the danger of the spread of disease now looms, from the many unburied dead and lack of fresh water and sanitation. The impact of disease may equal that of the tsunamis in potential casualties.

His Excellency, The President of Molossia has expressed his condolences for those that have suffered so horribly. He hopes that nations will truly come together during this emergency, and work to aid those in need in every way possible. Recognizing that our small country is limited in its ability to provide assistance to those in need, His Excellency has directed the Minister of Finance to contribute monetarily to the UNHCR, for the relief of the many displaced persons in the Indian Ocean Basin. We here in Molossia all express our profound grief for those lost in this tragedy, and our support for those that are struggling to survive.
