Molossia survives at the will of Our Giant Neighbor. That nation surrounds us, and sustains us with electricity, goods and even guest employment. At any time, Our Giant Neighbor may devour us, should the mood strike her. To keep that nation at bay then, Molossia pays a great deal of Foreign Tribute annually. This year, the demand for Foreign Tribute is quite steep, and has placed a great demand on our National Treasury. In order to meet this demand, certain restrictions must be made in our national budget. This has meant the curtailment of annual military exercises and, hardest of all, the surrender of our Colony of Juniper Hill.
Juniper Hill Colony lies in central Modoc County, about 11 Imperial Nortons (11 km / 7 mi) west of the town of Alturas, California. This was our second colony, and the second expansion of our little nation. It was obtained in November of 2004 XXVII. It is unfortunate that circumstances necessitate to its abandonment. Perhaps someday the demands of Our Giant Neighbor will lessen, and we will be able to return to Juniper Hill.
The treaty ceding Juniper Hill will be signed later this week.
