Kiva

The Republic of Molossia has again contributed to Kiva. Kiva is an organization that allows people to lend money via the Internet to microfinance institutions in developing countries around the world, which in turn lend the money to small businesses. Molossia's latest donation is to Rolando, an entrepreneur in the Phillippines. The loan to Rolando will help him maintain the electronic games he sells from his computer shop. When Molossia's loan to Rolando is someday repaid, the money will again be rolled back into Kiva to help another budding business person, and so on. Thus, though Molossia is itself a developing nation, we help others develop as well, the right thing to do in the world community. Read more about Kiva here!

Luau

On Sunday, 20 January 2013 XXXVI, the Republic of Molossia hosted a special event, our second winter luau. This festive Hawaiian-themed party was conceived by His Excellency, The President as an alternative to the dreary, cold days of winter. Billed as an anti-winter celebration, the event was planned and executed admirably by The First Lady. The attendees were the First Family and their friends, and activities included a limbo contest, a hula contest and other games. Food included spam, egg and cheese sandwiches for lunch, fruit and spam snacks and loco moco (a popular Hawaiian dish) for dinner. A festive time was had by all. This party definitely repelled the effects of winter in the hearts of the participants and is an annual event when the winter doldrums set in each year.
