His Excellency, The President and The First Lady have been honored to attend the Traverse City Film Festival, located in Traverse City, Michigan. The film festival is sponsored annually by acclaimed filmmaker Michael Moore and showcases independent films from all over the world. The First Couple were invited to attend and speak at the screening of the film "How To Start Your Own Country", which was partially filmed in Molossia in May 2009. The film visits micronations around the world with an eye toward what makes a country and has made the rounds at many film festivals around the world, including Leipzig, Amsterdam and Miami. On this occasion, His Excellency was invited to attend a showing of the movie and to speak at a forum following the screening. On 30 July 2011 XXXIV, The President and First Lady viewed the film before a packed hall in Traverse City, and then joined the filmmakers, Jody Shapiro and Denis Seguin, along with fellow micronationalist Gregory Green, on stage for the audience question and answer session. His Excellency and The First Lady were greeted with a standing ovation as they went on stage, a great honor indeed. The group then answered many thought-provoking questions from the audience, followed by an autograph signing session with new fans of our nation. Subsequent to the question and answer session, The President and First Lady traveled across town to an open forum discussion in a Traverse City park. This session was a good deal less formal and was marked by in-depth questions and discussion - although also marred by harassment from a local gadfly that insisted on asking questions totally unrelated to the topic. Nevertheless, an excellent time was had by all, and the evening was wrapped up with dinner at an upscale Traverse City restaurant. This event was an outstanding opportunity to showcase our mighty nation, and a great honor for Our President, First Lady and for the Republic of Molossia.
